flashquake
Well here’s me in flashquake. The story had been hanging around in my head for fifteen years before I first wrote it down three years ago.
Since then it has been tweaked and faffed with (I managed to remove another word when I proofed it yesterday) and I’m very protective of it, possibly because there’s more of an autobiographical element to it than other stories I’ve written since. Let’s say I’ve learned the art of using real life as a starting point for fiction, rather than sculpting real life into a different sort of shape, which is what I think I was doing then.
But the process aside, I’m glad this very short story has found such an esteemed home and thanks to Mary Estrada at flashquake for making it her ‘Editor’s Pick’.
